DIY AC Maintenance + Upkeep
While we’re happy to help whenever you need us, there are a few things you can do to ensure you don’t need frequent professional service. These DIY AC maintenance tips will help prevent future issues and encourage a long lifespan for your air conditioning unit.
With ample allergens, dust, and smoke from wildfires, California residents should change out filters frequently. Clogged, dirty filters have poor airflow, putting unnecessary strain on your system and making it less efficient. Change your filters once or twice a month when your AC is in regular use and about every three months during the off-season. (Both disposable and reusable filters are available on the market.)
Over time, your air conditioner’s coils collect dust that block airflow, especially if the unit is located outdoors. Use a wet paper towel or soft bristle brush vacuum attachment to keep the outside of your unit free from dust, dirt, and debris. If you notice dirt on the actual coils, call the Bland Company team to have a technician sent out for a cleaning as soon as possible.
Check the seals around all of your windows about once a year, paying specific attention to windows that are opened frequently. If you have a window unit, inspect the seal between the air conditioner and the window frame before each warm season, as well. Moisture damages these seals over time, allowing cold air to escape and forcing your system to work harder than needed.
